CHAPTER TWELVE

Between all of us, I was confident we had detailed the entire conversation we had with Elliot.

“What’s your gut reaction to this Elliot Warfel man?” Steve asked.

I looked up at Gabe. “What’s your take on your friend—if you can call him that.”

“He’s sneaky and smart, but I don’t see him as a killer. I heard his business wasn’t doing as well as it had been, but then again, neither was mine. Like I told you, I planned to get out of the financial business.”

“Would you recommend Elliot to your clients now that you’re no longer available?” I asked more for Steve’s sake.

Gabe seemed to think about it. “I’d have to say I would.”

That spoke volumes. I relayed to Steve what Gabe thought about Elliot.

He took notes. “What about you three? Get any vibes off the guy?”

I thought it was sweet that he included Iggy in the discussion. “I only met him for a few minutes. If he hadn’t been able to see Gabe, I never would have known he was a warlock.” I lifted a hand. “But that doesn’t mean I think he put the spell on Gabe.”

Steve’s brows pinched. “Good to know, but you said he can see ghosts?”

“He could see Gabe. Elliot said it was his first experience with a ghost.”

“That must have been scary for him. Good thing you three—or four—were there to confirm he wasn’t hallucinating.”

I looked over at Nicky and nodded. She was chomping at the bit to give her take. “Go ahead.”

“Elliot was fidgeting a lot, but I didn’t sense his heart rate was spiking. He might not have seen ghosts before, but he might have felt their presence in the past.”

Steve took more notes. “I’ll check out these clients, as well as this Elliot guy.”

“Just to keep you up to speed, both Bella and Lorenzo spent the day with the band to see what gossip they could gather. We’re headed back now to find out what they have learned.”

“If it is relevant, call me.” He pulled out his business card and jotted down his cell. “For emergencies. This way you won’t have to go through Pearl or Jennifer.”

“I appreciate that.”

The four of us headed out. No surprise, Gabe shot over to the office in a flash. I guess he wanted to get the scoop from Bella and Lorenzo, assuming they’d returned, before we did.

As I crossed the street, my stomach grumbled. “We haven’t eaten since breakfast. How about I call in for pizza delivery?”

Nicky grinned. “That would be perfect.”

To my delight, both Bella and Lorenzo were in the office when we arrived.

“About time you got here.” Bella sounded a little upset but also a bit excited.

“Let me call in our dinner order, and then we will exchange information.” Once I asked Nicky what she wanted, I made the call. “Our meal will be here in twenty-five minutes.”

“Great.”

Iggy crawled toward Lorenzo. “You learn anything?”

Iggy was impatient, just like Glinda.

“Not as much as we’d have liked. No one was bragging about killing Gabe or putting him in any kind of stasis,” Lorenzo said.
